About Me
My name is Patrick Cafferkey and I would like to welcome you to my website. Born and raised on Achill Island, Co. Mayo, it didn’t take long before I took a keen interest in music.
Being from Achill, it was hard to escape the sounds of the Pipes and Drums, especially the excitement of hearing the local bands play on St Patrick’s Day.
I joined Dookinella Pipe Band in 1989. Achill is comprised of five very talented bands, the first of which was set up in 1947. In the past an Achill band was formed to compete at national competitions, but unfortunately some years later it was disbanded. In September 2007, it was decided to recreate the adventure once more. To date, the band has enjoyed wonderful success, with an All-Ireland win in 2008 and a 4th place finish in 2009 at its very first World Championships.
Weddings
I began playing the bagpipes at wedding functions over 10 years ago in various parts of the country. Living now in Co. Galway, I have seen a great demand for the service I provide, with much of my work coming through the hotels that cater for the bride and groom, on their special day.
It gives me great pleasure to see the joy on so many faces and feel honoured to be part of this special day. A day that, a couple, with their family and friends, will always remember.
